Welcome Back Arnold Elementary!

It was great to see so many happy student faces last week at Sneak a Peek and meet our new families! We are ready and excited to start a new school year with you!

Recently, Ms. Carleton was hired as the school counselor at Fort Smallwood Elementary. We will miss her and wish her all the best in her new school. As a new third grade teacher to Arnold, I would like to welcome Ms. Layden! She is a wonderful addition to Arnold Elementary School.

Monday we will welcome back all our first through fifth grade students. On either Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday we will welcome our new kindergarten students, depending on the assigned kindergarten staggered day. Kindergarten students only attend one staggered entry day. All kindergarten students will attend on Tuesday, September 3rd.

Back To School Night will be this Wednesday night starting at 6:00pm. This is an adult only event to allow parents time to hear about classroom information. All parents will go directly to their child’s homeroom teacher. There will be two sessions available for families with multiple children. The first session will be 6:00-6:45pm and the second session will be 6:45-7:30pm.

Please note the information below about Back to School:

· For the car rider lane, please make sure you read the important information below. It is extremely important that parents remain in their car and students exit and enter the vehicle on the curb side only and not in the by-pass lane. Our priority is to keep students, staff, and parents safe.

· Please make sure to check the bus information on the AACPS website to make sure your child's bus stop has not changed and/or their bus number has not changed.

· For class information please set up an account on the PowerSchool Parent Portal: https://www.aacps.org/page/studentparent-portal

· For classroom communication please set up an account on Rooms: https://www.aacps.org/page/rooms-support

Please make sure your child knows how they will be going home each day. If there are any changes, please email the teacher or call the office as soon as possible. We have a new dismissal survey for families to share how their child is getting home the first day of school and going forward. Please use the QR code below to complete the survey.

Student Dismissal Plan

Please make sure your child's teacher knows their daily dismissal plan.

We ask that you please keep dismissal changes to a minimum. All dismissal changes need to be phoned in by 1:30 pm. We will not take dismissal changes after that time.

Our last early dismissal time is 2:00 pm. If you are picking your child up from school early, it has to be done before 2:00 pm.

Bus Schedules

Bus schedules are now posted online at www.aacps.org/buses. If your student is eligible for bus transportation, please make sure you review these schedules and check back regularly as some schedules may change prior to the start of the school year. Additional information regarding bus ridership can be found at www.aacps.org/transportation. Questions should be directed to the Transportation Office at transportation@aacps.org or 410-923-7890. School Supplies

Each student will receive their school supplies when we return to school.

Students will only need to bring:

- Headphones

- Water Bottle

- Lunch Box

- Book Bag

Car Rider Arrival and Dismissal

During arrival and dismissal, the parking lot will be closed. Car riders must use the car rider drop off lane.
Car riders will need to stay in their car until 7:45 am when a staff member is present.
The curb is the loading and unloading zone. Please do not drop off your student before the curb.
Parents remain in their car and students exit and enter the vehicle on the curb side only and not in the by-pass lane.
Cars need to pull all the way up to allow other cars to reach the curb so more students can unload.
The By Pass Lane is only used to pass other cars in order to exit the school, not to pass others to drop off or pick up. Please drive slowly and carefully.
Each family will be given a name card to display in the dashboard for dismissal time. Please put the last name on the card.

Information from the Health Room

· Please let us know if your child has any chronic health conditions, such as asthma, seizures, diabetes or life-threatening allergies. This information will be reviewed with you yearly.

· Make sure to tell your school nurse about medications and medical treatments your child requires during the school day.

· If a medication is needed during the school day, a PRAM must be filled out by the Doctor and Parent (even for over-the-counter medications).
