Good Evening Families,

We had a great start to the school year! As we are getting back to school, students are doing an amazing job being respectful, making new friends and enjoying school overall.

Last week students learned about our new reading curriculum and the learning expectations for each area of the school. The students also reviewed the code of conduct. Please make sure you sign the acknowledgement page for the Student Handbook; either the paper form or on Parent Portal (see below).

This week students in grades 1-5 will be completing i-Ready Reading and i-Ready Math Diagnostic Assessments. These tests are important as they provide us with baseline information to help us better plan for the instructional needs of our students. Please encourage your child to do their very best on the assessments.

Congratulations to Johan in Fifth Grade for winning the National InvestWrite Essay Competition! As part of the Stock Market Club last school year, Johan submitted an essay about what he learned.

This Friday is our first Arnold Elementary School Spirit Day! Students and staff are encouraged to wear blue and white for our school colors.

Student Dismissal Plan

Please make sure your child's teacher knows their daily dismissal plan.

We ask that you please keep dismissal changes to a minimum. All dismissal changes need to be phoned in by 1:30 pm. We will not take dismissal changes after that time.

Our last early dismissal time is 2:00 pm. If you are picking your child up from school early, it has to be done before 2:00 pm.

9/19 and 9/20 - 4th grade field trip to Arlington Echo

9/26 - PTA Meeting at 6:30 pm

10/3 - Schools closed for Rosh Hashanah

Student Code of Conduct

Please review the Student Code of Conduct with your child(ren) and sign off on the page at the front of the handbook. Once this is completed turn the first page into your student's teacher. 

 If you have a Parent Portal account, you are also able to sign off there! Just login to your account and click on Forms. Once you see the "2024-2025 Acknowledgement of Review of the Student Handbook" link, sign and date the form.

Frequently Asked Questions

When do we stop allowing students to be signed-out for early dismissal? 2pm - because we need to know how all students are getting home and if we make last minute changes, that is when mistakes are made.

What time do we want students in their seats? 8am (this is very important!)

Car Rider Arrival and Dismissal

  • During arrival and dismissal, the parking lot will be closed. Car riders must use the car rider drop off lane.

  • Car riders will need to stay in their car until 7:45 am when a staff member is present.

  • The curb is the loading and unloading zone. Please do not drop off your student before the curb.

  • Parents remain in their car and students exit and enter the vehicle on the curb side only and not in the by-pass lane.

  • Cars need to pull all the way up to allow other cars to reach the curb so more students can unload.

  • The By Pass Lane is only used to pass other cars in order to exit the school, not to pass others to drop off or pick up. Please drive slowly and carefully.

  • Each family will be given a name card to display in the dashboard for dismissal time. Please put the last name on the card.

Health Room News

Hello Arnold Elementary School! I would like to take a moment to introduce myself. I am Nurse Brooke, the school nurse here at Arnold Elementary School and look forward to another year here! I live on the Eastern Shore with my significant other, two dogs, and baby boy. I enjoy reading and "glamping" in my spare time. If you need to contact me, email is best, but I am in office on Tuesday and Thursday during school hours. 

My name is Kenesha Young. I have four children, two being twins. I'm a PTA president for my children's school and a sports mom.  I love spending time with my family and our lovely German Shepards. I'm happy to be your health assistant and care for all our lovely Terps. We are going to have an amazing year full of sunshine and rainbows!!

A few reminders the health room would like to leave you with:

  • Physicals are due 6 months from the start of school if you are new to AACPS. 

  • Students must be fever free for 24 hours without medication before returning to school. 

  • All medications must have a signed doctor's order with them in order to be kept and administered in the health room.

Information from the Health Room

· Please let us know if your child has any chronic health conditions, such as asthma, seizures, diabetes or life-threatening allergies. This information will be reviewed with you yearly.

· Make sure to tell your school nurse about medications and medical treatments your child requires during the school day.

· If a medication is needed during the school day, a PRAM must be filled out by the Doctor and Parent (even for over-the-counter medications).
