Four steps to being emergency prepared

Winter Weather Preparedness

As we enter January, the weather gets colder. The Anne Arundel County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) presented a webinar which can be viewed by clicking the following link: Winter is Coming: Make Sure Your Family and Community are Prepared. They share four (4) key steps to being prepared for any emergency. The 4 steps are:

  • Be Informed: Know the hazards and sign up to receive alerts by visiting alertannearundel.civicready.com

  • Make a Plan: Dress in layers, get a flu shot and Covid booster, understand your family, work, and school emergency plans. Learn about the AA county warming centers at senior activity centers, public libraries, and district police stations. Visit www.aacounty.org/warm for more information.

  • Build a Kit: Consider building a shelter-in-place kit to include items such as water, food (3 day supply), battery powered radio with extra batteries, family first aid kit, and more. To learn more about what to include in a kit visit https://www.ready.gov/kit.

  • Get Involved: Check on vulnerable neighbors, take a First Aid, CPR/AED, or Stop the Bleed Class, and include family/friends/neighbors in your emergency pl

You can watch the webinar linked above, or read the slides they prepared/presented. The slides can be found here.
