Crofton High

The Cardinal Call

Good Afternoon Crofton High,

Congratulations to our Field Hockey team who this past week won their third straight state championship! Our entire school could not be more proud of Coach Amy Skrickus and her team for the past three years of winning. The team has 17 seniors who have established Crofton's Field Hockey culture of excellence on and off the field, teamwork, and perseverance. Our seniors will be missed, but we know the future is bright!

Sticking with athletics, tonight our girls soccer program is vying for their second state title vs. Whitman High at Loyola University at 5 pm. Please come out and support our team - Go Cards!

Another highlight from this past week, our World Language Competition team competed at Anne Arundel County Community College and impressed in a multitude of events. They won the culture and geography rounds and finished second in the t-shirt competition. Congratulations to our students teachers for showing the entire county what amazing students we have!

All weekend, the Cardinal Players' Fall comedy, This Murder Was Staged, will be playing in our auditorium. Please come out to laugh and see what our talented students can do. Find ticket information and more below for this weekend's showing.

On November 25th and 26th, Parent-Teacher Conferences will take place virtually. Links to sign up for these virtual conferences with your students' teachers have been placed on our website. The office will be open on Monday, November 25th if questions arise, but the office will be closed on Tuesday, November 26th.

Thank you all for a great week and remember you can always find more information about any of our events on our website www.croftonhigh.com.

Have a great weekend Crofton!

CARDS Ticket Winners!!!!

MTSS is excited to announce Khloe Wills won the second of two October MTSS prizes for achievement in one or more classes.  This includes 2 tickets to the Taylor Swift Corn Maze for Saturday, November 2nd.

Additionally, 24 other students have won smaller prizes (snacks, candy & school supplies) donated by our lovely community members!

For the remainder of October, we are ACHIEVING.  Teachers will give out cards for earning top marks on assignments, seeking help during CARDS Connect, setting up study groups, taking the lead in class activities, etc.

Students can still win snacks, treats & school supplies!!  Encourage your kids to check their grades regularly and enter their green "Achieve" tickets in our October drawing.

We would also like to share our Student Wishlist this month of prizes our students have requested (mostly food ... 😁).  With these prizes, we can give out even more awards each month to students who are "ACHIEVING" (in October) and remaining "RESPECTFUL" in November.  Please take a look to see if you can contribute to our efforts at spreading positivity to celebrate positive student behavior.

The Cardinal Players present

This Murder Was Staged

It's opening night of a brand-new mystery play, but just as the killer is about to be revealed, the body of the play's director falls onstage instead. In that moment, the theater becomes an active crime scene, and everyone from cast to crew to even the audience becomes a suspect. But how is the intrepid detective supposed to find the killer when everyone and their mother (literally) has a motive to want the demanding director gone? This Murder Was Staged is a fast-paced, backstabbing, backstage comedy that will make you laugh and giggle in your seats!

Come join the Cardinal Players as they stage this comedy production. The show opens on November 14th and runs through November 17th. Please come out and enjoy the show!

Project Lead the Way

Our PLTW seniors are conducting research for their capstone projects, and you or someone you know may be able to help by filling out one of their surveys.

The problems they are addressing are lack of universal charging for rechargeable lithium-ion batteries, lack of access to affordable hearing aids, and difficulty with prostheses (access or function) for people who have lost a limb. If you are a "stakeholder" for any of these problems, please consider taking a couple minutes to complete one of the surveys linked here:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1PPR37csKPKTD2ReKGHFAZe7Lwze6cskoQ-nrD0cipCg/edit?usp=sharing

They are relatively short! 🙂

Also feel free to pass the links on to friends and family. If any of the links don't work, please email me at jmcleran@aacps.org. Thank you!

What is a Steamfitter?

A Steamfitter is a person who fabricates, installs, and services piping systems. Steamfitters work on different types of piping systems – Residential, Commercial, and Industrial.  Residential systems are in your house or apartment.  Commercial systems are heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration.  Industrial systems are the construction of piping systems for electrical power generators, wastewater treatment, solid waste disposal, and industrial manufacturing process.

What is the Steamfitter Apprentice Program?

The Apprenticeship program is a five-year training program.  Apprentices are assigned to a union contractor and work on assigned work sites, generally forty hours per week, depending on the job conditions and the economy.

What Does the Apprentice Program Cost? Apprentices are not charged tuition!  The Heating, Piping, and Refrigeration Training Fund covers the cost of an education worth over $45,000.  All members, through their benefits package, pay into the Training Fund to help facilitate the continuation of a skilled union trade.  The cost to the apprentice includes textbooks, school supplies, personal protection equipment, and certification fees which are typically less than $400 per year.  You will be required to provide your own reliable transportation to work and school.

Attention Parents!

Rating Scales and Written Input for Physicians and/or Outside Providers:

If you need to collect information from school personnel for your physician, private psychologist/assessor, or therapist, etc. via rating forms (electronic/written) or written feedback documents, CrHS has a formal process in place.

Please do not have your student deliver these paper documents to school staff directly. Please do not have your provider email the rating scales directly to school staff until we have a signed release of information at the school.

If you have documents or rating scales that your outside providers are interested in having school staff/teachers complete, please reach out to your student’s school counselor to initiate this process. Keep in mind, we aim for a two-week turnaround once the formal request is made, the items are provided to the school counselor for distribution and a signed release of information has been completed at CrHS. We will then send the completed documents directly to the requesting office/provider when completed items are received.

ATTN PARENTS: FEDERAL IMPACT PROGRAM SURVEY

Parents who are active military or who live or work on Federal Property in Maryland are

asked to complete this year’s Federal Impact Aid Survey that became available on

September 30, 2024.

You will be asked to verify your home address and identify if it is located on federal

property. You will also complete sections identifying if a family member is in the military

or works on federally owned property in Maryland. The survey should only take a couple

of minutes to complete and, be assured, all data collected is kept completely confidential.

Why Complete This Survey?

Anne Arundel County Public Schools, like many local school districts across the United

States, include within our boundaries parcels of land that are owned by the Federal

Government or that have been removed from the local tax rolls by the Federal Government.

Federal property is exempt from local property taxes. By submitting an application to the

Department of Education each January, AACPS receives approximately $2 million to assist

in educating all our students.
