Happy New Year!

Welcome to 2025! This year came in cold, with snow we haven't seen in a while! I know all our students enjoyed their extra break and hope they were able to have some fun playing in the snow! At this point, AACPS has used all its preset snow days and will have the option of shifting to a virtual instructional day IF needed. Those decisions will be a case-by-case basis and communicated via apps, social media, and the news outlets.

January is a time for goal setting! Our students will participate in lessons on crafting SMART goals that are actionable and attainable. They will continue to keep track of their iReady scores in their Agenda books/folders and set a goal for their upcoming diagnostic in both reading and math!

Our EL students will participate in WIDA assessments this winter. This assessment measures their growth in English proficiency in speaking, reading, listening and writing. It is a very challenging and individualized assessment. We are confident in the hard work that our ELs and their teachers have done already this year and know that their efforts are paying off!

February will once again bring our Kindness Dance, scheduled for February 13th! We will award a "Golden Ticket" to one student in every class which gets them free entry and a a prize! This golden ticket will be given to students who exemplify our Caught with Character traits thus far and who go above and beyond in acts of kindness towards others. Pencil in the date...RSVPs will be required as this is typically a "sold out" event!

I look forward to continued growth in this new year and wish our families happiness and smiles!

Attendance Matters

School attendance is important at all levels, PreK-12! Did you know that missing 10% or more of the school year can make it difficult for children to learn to read and develop fundamental math skills? 10% is 18 days! That might seem like a lot, but when you think about it over the entire school year, it's only 2 days a month! Tardies are included and also negatively affect student progress.

If your child does need to be absent, please be sure to send in a note so that the absence is not considered truant (unexcused). This can also be submitted electronically (visit our school site linked above) as well via as via Rooms or email.
