The children in Pre-Kindergarten explore growth over time by investigating gardens and the living things within them. They are learning about what plants need to grow, what creatures live in and benefit from gardens, and how people grow gardens for food. Our students will write informational texts like a science journal and a log about how a plant grows. They have opportunities to find solutions and learn how best to cooperate

Kindergarten

Kindergarten friends will become familiar with the earth's natural resources and will begin to recognize how people's actions affect the environment in which we live. They will also learn about land, water, air, and pollution. We  will explore the water cycle and the steps of the recycling and composting processes. In this domain, students will work with their classmates to create a book that will include ideas for solutions on how to take better care of the earth.

First Grade

Fabulous First graders are learning about favorite fairy tales and the elements that distinguish them as a unique type of fiction. Through daily Read-Alouds, the students are exploring fairy tales that exemplify bravery and heroism, teach literacy concepts such as good versus evil, and provide valuable life lessons. This will help our first graders develop a strong foundation for understanding other types of fictional stories in later grades.

Second Grade

Second graders are learning about how cells are the building blocks of life on Earth. They also explored how cells form tissues, tissues form organs, and organs work within various body systems. Second graders are learning about the digestive and excretory systems, focusing on the fundamental parts and functions of these body systems. They will also be taught the five keys to good health, the importance of good nutrition, and how to eat a well-balanced diet.

Third Grade

Third grade is wrapping up their unit on Native Americans where they read historical texts describing events and cultures of Native Americans. During this unit they also wrote journal entries and created an oral reading presentation. Next, third grade will begin their Early Explorations of North America unit where they will read about the explorers and how they interacted with the Native Americans. During this unit they will also write opinion pieces.

Fourth Grade

Fourth grade is in their American Revolution unit where they are reading literary selections from the time period to learn about the important events and people that led to the decision to declare independence from the British Government. During this unit they are also writing a cause-and-effect essay. Their last unit will be Treasure Island. In this unit students will examine the function genre though the classical novel Treasure Island. During this unit they will engage in the writing process where they will write, publish, and share an original adventure story.

Fifth Grade

Fifth grade just completed The Reformation unit where they read about how the scientific advances and the invention of the printing press helped fuel the Reformation Movement. During this unit they also crafted a friendly letter and created an informative slide presentation. They are now moving into their Native Americans unit where they will compare tribes cultures and read myths and takes from tribes. During this unit students will also continue through the writing processes to write a persuasive essay.

Attendance Matters

School attendance is important at all levels, PreK-12! Did you know that missing 10% or more of the school year can make it difficult for children to learn to read and develop fundamental math skills? 10% is 18 days! That might seem like a lot, but when you think about it over the entire school year, it's only 2 days a month! Tardies are included and also negatively affect student progress.

If your child does need to be absent, please be sure to send in a note so that the absence is not considered truant (unexcused). This can also be submitted electronically (visit our school site linked above) as well via as via Rooms or email.
