Principal's Message

Dear Parents,

With another weather event on the horizon now may be a good time to check to ensure your student can access Brightspace and there classes. If weather impacts schools AACPS may decide to hold classes virtually. In that case you will be provided with a schedule for your student by their homeroom teacher (the one listed on the AACPS Website is only a generic recommendation, each school has to create one to meet the needs of their school).

Loaner Devices - All device requests have been approved. If you recently requested one and have not received it please know it is a process. Once requested and approved they need to be set up and delivered to the school. Our tech then needs to assign it, at that point we send it home. AACPS' expectation is that your student transports the Chromebook back and forth to school daily for use at home and in the classroom. At this time we have enough so I am not requiring that happen, however in the future as more and more families request devices we may have to revisit that.

Its Not to Late!!!

Cultural Arts News

PE News:

In January, students in all grade levels practiced dribbling, passing and receiving, and shooting baskets.  Older students incorporated offensive and defensive strategies and learned some shooting games including Around the World and HORSE.

February is national heart month. Students will practice taking their pulse, learn heart healthy habits, and strengthen their heart through a variety of jumping and jump rope activities. This year they will be “Jump Rope Ninjas” and work on earning different color belts by progressing through different jumping and jump rope challenges.

Please remind your child to wear or bring sneakers on their PE day(s).  Boots of any kind, crocs, and Hey Dudes are not safe for participation in physical education activities.

  • And glue sticks!

Art

All classes will begin creating designs for their Art To Remember projects.

  • Pre-K - Students will use the art elements, line and shape, to create an abstract bug composition.

  • K - Students will use the art elements to create a garden composition.

  • 1st - Students will discuss different things they might find in the ocean. They will create a composition using one animal as the focal point. Small details will be added to create interest in the background.

  • 2nd - Students will discuss how moods and emotions can be communicated through emojis. They will create a unique design of their own using multiple emojis.

  • 3rd - Students will create a seascape using boats and/or a lighthouse. We will discuss the uses of a horizon line as well as the concepts of fore, middle and background.

  • 4th - Students will discuss different types of land lines that can be used to create a unique landscape. We will also be discussing contrast through the use of warm and cool color schemes.

  • 5th - Students will choose an animal for the focal point of their design. They will create a background that emphasizes the animal they choose.

Band and Strings

Congratulations to the LES Band, Strings, Percussion and Chorus for their outstanding performance at our December Winter Concert. We are all looking forward to hearing them play and sing again in the Spring to see and hear their continued progress. Patience and discipline are the key concepts to master music skills. BELIEVE!

Students should be practicing at home at least 3 to 4 times per week at home when possible.
