Morning Drop Off Procedures

We want to emphasize that we are aware of the traffic situation around campus. We have been mindful about the traffic when applying our tardy policy and we are not penalizing students who have been arriving after 8:30am due to traffic. With that, we are adding drop-off procedures to our Patriot Lane entrance in an effort to make drop-off more efficient for parents, students, and staff. Please see important details below about this addition to our current drop-off procedures.

We need full parent cooperation with each of the following points to maximize our efficiency during drop off:

  1. Pull forward as far as possible as the line moves forward.

  2. Follow all staff directions - There will be two staff members directing traffic (marked on the map with stars).

    • The first staff member will direct you to the left or right lane as you enter the lot.

    • The second staff member will direct you when to exit the drop off line.

  3. Please make sure that your student(s) are ready to exit the vehicle when the line stops.

  4. Do not make U-turns in the drop off line, on Patriot Lane, or in the intersection prior to the drop off line.

  5. Review the map below for your awareness.

  6. This change will take effect on Monday, September 9th.

Front Drop-off Map Click Here

As always, we appreciate your cooperation as we navigate sharing our campus with ongoing construction projects. We will continue to look at adjustments that can be made to ensure a safe and efficient drop-off for all of our students.

Cell Phone Policy

As part of a move to maximize the focus on instruction, remove distractions, and improve mental health, Anne Arundel County Public Schools has instituted a Cell Phone policy for all students, systemwide.  In conjunction with this AACPS Policy on Cell Phone and Electronic Device use, the following OMHS policy will be followed.  This policy will cover cell phones, watches, other electronic devices, and listening devices such as earphones, headphones, or AirPods, etc.

High school students may use their phones during lunch but must have them off or on silent mode and out of sight at all other times, including in hallways during transitions between classes.

Tardy Policy

Students who are tardy to class disrupt the learning environment resulting in a loss of valuable instructional time.  In an effort to curb the excessive tardiness, Old Mill High School will implement a school-wide procedure for recording, monitoring, and when necessary, assigning consequences for tardiness.

Students have 5 minutes to transition from each class. If a student arrives to class after the bell, they will be sent to the tardy table where their tardy will be logged and consequences will be assigned using the following progressive disicpline:

1st Tardy -  Warning

2nd Tardy - Warning

3rd Tardy - Lunch Detention

4th Tardy - PRIDE Detention

5th Tardy - Before/After School Detention (7:30 - 8:20 am OR 3:25 - 4:00 pm)

6th Tardy - Friday School (3:25 - 4:25 pm)

7th Tardy - ISI (In School Intervention)

8th Tardy - Additional Administrative Consequences

Please speak with your students about the importance of being on time to class.

ATTENDANCE

General Reminders:

  • When a student is absent, excuse notes must be received by the school within 3 days of the absence.  Notes received after this time may be coded unexcused at the discretion of the principal.

  • Full day attendance notes must be submitted through the Parent Portal by parent/legal guardian (no other forms of notes will be accepted).

  • Any absences more than 5 days will require a hard copy doctor’s note to be brought to the main office.  Doctor’s notes must include the student’s full name, date(s) of absence, reason for absence, doctor signature/stamp.

  • Attendance notes submitted through the Parent Portal are only for full day absences this year.  Anything other than a full day absence will require a hard copy note from parent/legal guardian and must include the student’s full name, date(s) of absence, reason for absence, parent/legal guardian signature.

Late Arrivals:

Instruction begins at 8:30 AM.  Any student entering the building after this time must report to the tardy table to sign in and will be marked tardy.

Early Dismissals:

  • No early dismissals will be permitted after 3:00 PM (if you will need your student between 3:00 PM and dismissal, please plan to be in the main office for sign out prior to 3:00 PM).

  • Please try to avoid early dismissals between 9:55 AM and 10:25 AM whenever possible due to Pride Period.

Only legal parents/guardians are authorized to pick up a student, unless the parent has sent in a note that another adult has parent permission to pick up that day.

  • The note must include the student’s name, date and reason for the early dismissal, legal name of the person who is authorized to pick up, and parent signature.  A note will be required each time that someone other than parent/legal guardian picks up a student.

  • All individuals that are picking up a student for early dismissal MUST present identification.

  • Students will not be called for dismissal until the parent/guardian has arrived in the main office and had their identification checked.  Please allow a few extra minutes for your student to arrive in the office unless a note regarding the early dismissal has been turned in earlier in the day.

2024 Patriot Pride March Off:

PLEDGE HERE

The Old Mill High School Band Program is dedicated to giving students the opportunity to grow musically, socially, and academically. Through musical performance, students learn how to perform and appreciate music of a variety of styles and levels of difficulty. Through group involvement, students learn how to work together to achieve common goals and achievements that are more personal and develop self-discipline.

The funds accumulated through your donations go directly back to the students in the form of transportation, uniforms, instrument needs, and other needs during the Fall marching season.

On Wednesday, October 23, beginning at 6:30pm, the students will engage in a "March Off." Students will be organized in their marching block and will be given a series of marching and stationary commands. Students who perform these commands correctly will move on to the next round. If a mistake is made, that individual student is eliminated.

You may either make a simple flat donation, or pledge to an individual student per round of the competition. The choice is yours.

Thank you for supporting the Old Mill High School Patriot Pride Marching Band!

We could not engage in the wonderful learning opportunities and the fun things we do here without your monetary support. Please know that no amount is too small. Your ongoing backing and support are both truly appreciated.
