September Message

Our start to the '24-'25 school year was exciting. We welcomed 699 students to our building this year and the staff did an amazing job of welcoming each student and ensuring that all students feel a sense of belonging at Rippling Woods Elementary.

We look forward to meeting our families at Back To School Night on September 6, 2024 at 6:00 PM. Families will go directly to their child's classroom for a brief introduction from administration, Title I, Community Schools and PTA. Then our amazing teachers will share information about their schedules, routines and curriculum including CKLA, AACPS' new literacy curriculum. After meeting the teachers, please join our PTA in the cafeteria for some ice cream and to hear about the events planned for this year.

Important information about arrival and dismissal. Doors open at 7:40 a.m. Students can go to the cafeteria to pick up a free breakfast to enjoy in their classrooms. Instruction begins promptly at 8:00 a.m. (Students are “late by 8”). Early Dismissal- Cut Off is at 2:00 p.m. Dismissal begins at 2:25 p.m. Starting with walkers, bus riders and then car riders.

Dismissal is a very busy time of the day and we have 699 students to account for. We recognize dismissal plans may need to occasionally change but we ask that you keep these changes to only when necessary to promote the safety of our students. If a change is necessary, please call the main office by 2:00 p.m. so we have enough time to relay the information to the teachers. This will reduce rushed communication and ensure messages are relayed in a timely manner and prevent possible oversights. We appreciate your understanding and support of this practice.

Our first fundraiser of the year is our Fun Run. Students collect pledges for completing laps around the course. Students will hear all about the Fun Run during morning announcements starting on September 17. The Fun Run will occur on September 25 in the morning. More information/details will be coming to families via backpack flyers and alerts.

Student Accident Information

Each year, school children have accidents. Medical costs can be expensive, and unexpected bills can cause hardships. Even if you have other insurance, it is often not enough as coverage can require high deductibles or co-insurance payments.

Anne Arundel County Public Schools does not provide medical insurance for injuries to students that occur while the student is at school or when off of school property while they are involved in a school related activity.  However, we have made arrangements with Bob McCloskey Insurance to offer accident coverage to all enrolled students at a modest premium. Through this program, parents/guardians have the opportunity to purchase this protection for their child.

Some of the advantages of this insurance include:

At-School Student Accident Coverage: This provides insurance for the hours and days when school is in session and while students are attending school sponsored and supervised activities on or off school premises.

Coverage is provided during:

• The school day, on school premises, while school is in session.

• Direct and uninterrupted travel to and from home and scheduled classes.

• School sponsored and supervised sports (excluding high school football).

• Travel to and from school sponsored and supervised sports while in school approved vehicle.

 Once effective, coverage continues until the earlier date where the enrolled students coverage has been in place for twelve months or the first day of the next school year.

Around the Clock - 24-hour Accident coverage: This provides insurance coverage around-the-clock, anywhere in the world. Coverage is provided:

• Before, during and after school.

• Weekends, vacation and all summer including summer school.

• School sponsored and extracurricular sports (excluding high school football).

Once effective, coverage continues until the earlier date where the enrolled students coverage has been in place for twelve months or the first day of the next school year.

All coverage becomes effective on the date that the completed application and premium are received by Bob McCloskey Insurance. or online enrollment is completed.

community schools funded through blueprint

Rippling Woods is now a Community School. A community school is a public school that offers additional support and services to students and families and is designed to address needs outside of the classroom that can impact student achievement. This along with our Title I status allows us to offer more academic and family services. Services such as tutoring, afterschool clubs, family events, field trips, behavior health, and adult language classes are just a few of what these programs offer. In order for us to keep these programs we need our families to fill out their Free and Reduce Meal Forms. No matter your status, FILL IT OUT! The results from this form ensures we receive more staff, resources, and money is poured into our school so that all of our lifelong learners and their families are successful.
