Happy New Year! Welcome back from an enjoyable and restful winter break. We are excited to have students return to the routine of attending school each day. Congratulations to the following classes for winning the December to Remember Attendance Challenge:

Pre-K – Ms. Dowling

Kindergarten: Mr. Cross and Ms. Cruz   3rd Grade: Ms. Carhart

1st Grade: Ms. Kondrat                           4th Grade: Ms. Bell

2nd Grade: Ms. Huck                               5th Grade: Ms. Sherwood

Consistent attendance is one of the strongest predictors of student success. Our goal is for every student to maintain at least 95% attendance. When students are present every day, they build stronger connections with teachers and peers, stay on track with learning, and develop good habits that last a lifetime. Thank you for partnering with us to ensure your child is in school on time, every day, and ready to learn!

As we return to our routines, please remember that school doors open at 7:40 AM and close promptly at 8:00am. Students should be in their classrooms and ready to begin the day at 8:00am, allowing our staff to start instruction on time. Any students arriving after the doors close will need to be escorted to the main office.

On January 13th, Southgate is scheduled to have a visit from the MSDE Expert Review team.   Every school will be engaged in this visit by the year 2032.  This visit will include classroom walkthroughs and interviews with focus groups of students, staff, and parents.  Please see included  flyer for more information.

This month, students will also participate in DIBELS and IReady Diagnostic Assessments. These assessments help our teachers better understand student progress and plan instructions to meet individual learning needs. Additionally, the end of the second marking period is quickly approaching, and teachers will be preparing report cards and progress reports for your review.

We would like to thank the PTA for hosting this year's Festival of Friends event. It was a blast celebrating the holiday season with our Southgate community. Click here to access the SGE PTA website to learn more about  upcoming meetings, events, and resources.
