Parent Information Night: Zones of Regulation
Tuesday, April 14 at 6:30 p.m. | Hybrid Format

Families are invited to attend a Parent Information Night on Tuesday, April 14 at 6:30 p.m., held in a hybrid format to allow both in-person and virtual participation. During this session, Mrs. Haines will share information about the Zones of Regulation framework used in classrooms at Windsor Farm Elementary.

The Zones of Regulation is a research-informed approach that helps students develop skills in self-awareness, emotional regulation, and problem-solving. Mrs. Haines will explain the four color-coded zones, how students learn to identify and manage their emotions, and how this shared language supports positive behavior and learning across classrooms.

Families will leave with a better understanding of how we support students’ social-emotional growth and practical strategies for reinforcing these skills at home. We look forward to partnering with families to support our students’ continued growth and success.

National Purple Up! Day

National Purple Up! Day, observed annually on April 15, is a special opportunity to honor and support the children of military families. These resilient students often face unique challenges, including frequent moves and extended absences of a loved one due to military service—all while showing remarkable strength, courage, and adaptability.

At Windsor Farm Elementary, we are proud to recognize and appreciate the sacrifices made by our military-connected students and families. In recognition of National Purple Up! Day, we invite all students and staff to wear purple on April 15th as a visible symbol of unity, support, and appreciation.

Let’s come together as a school community to celebrate and thank our military-connected students for all they do and all they overcome!

S.T.E.A.M. Night and Science & Engineering Expo

Our recent S.T.E.A.M. Night and Science and Engineering Expo was a tremendous success! We extend a sincere thank you to our PTO and Mathnasium of Annapolis for partnering with us to provide an engaging evening filled with hands-on activities, problem-solving, and excitement around learning in science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics.

We are incredibly proud of all the students who participated in our annual Science and Engineering Expo. Their creativity, curiosity, and hard work were on full display, and they represented Windsor Farm with excellence. Congratulations to the students whose projects will advance to the county-level competition—we wish you the very best of luck as you continue this exciting journey!

State Testing (MCAP) Begins this week
for students in grades 3-5

State Testing for many Maryland students will begin this week. At the elementary level,
students in grades 3-5 will be participating in eight sessions of the Maryland Comprehensive
Assessment Program (MCAP) – 4 sessions in Math and 4 sessions in English/Language Arts.
At Windsor Farm, these sessions are scheduled during April and May.
See below for a complete schedule.

Testing is scheduled to begin at 8:15 each morning on our scheduled testing days. You
can help your student do their best by ensuring they get a good night’s sleep, have something
to eat in the morning, and arrive to school on time. Students who arrive after the testing
session has begun will need to wait in the office until the session ends and will be scheduled
for a make-up session at another time.

Attention Fifth Grade Families

🎉 Save the Date! 🎉
We’re excited to announce that our 5th

Mark your calendars as we celebrate our
amazing 5th graders and their journey to
middle school! 🎓

Spring is a wonderful time for new beginnings, and we are excited to invite our families to participate in our “Spring into Reading” Guest Reader Series as we finish out the school year. We will host three special Guest Reader days on April 27, May 8, and June 9, and we would love for you to be a part of this meaningful experience in your child’s classroom.

Guest Readers will have the opportunity to visit the classroom and share a favorite children’s book—ideally with a spring theme—with our students. Hearing stories read by parents, grandparents, and other family members helps children see that reading is joyful, meaningful, and something we share as a community. Your participation helps spark curiosity, imagination, and a lifelong love of literacy.

Guest reading sessions will take place during students’ science/social studies block (times listed in sign-ups below). You are welcome to bring a favorite book from home, or you may choose one from our collection. A basket of popular children’s books will be available in the main office for guest readers to check out if needed.

If you would like to participate, please sign up using one of the links below. When signing up, please include the guest reader’s name in the comments so we know who to expect. We hope to include as many family voices as possible as we celebrate reading this spring!

Thank you for supporting our young readers and helping make literacy a joyful part of every day.

Safe Routes to Schools – Community Input Opportunities

Anne Arundel County Public Works is continuing its Safe Routes to Schools Phase 2 study and is seeking community feedback on draft recommendations for participating schools, which includes Windsor Farm. There will also be a virtual public meeting on April 30 at 6:00 p.m., open to families from all schools involved in the study, as well as select in‑person meetings for specific school communities. All project information and updates will be posted on the project webpage, and public comments will be accepted through May 25.

🎉📚 Book Fair Recap 📚🎉

Our Spring Book Fair was a success, and it would not have been possible without the amazing volunteers who gave their time and energy to make it happen.

Because of this community effort, we raised $4,804.04 to support our school. Our families contributed $333.67 to Share the Fair, and because of your generosity, we were able to ensure that every student was able to leave the fair with a book in hand. Grandparents/Grandfriends Day was also a huge success, with better organization and flow that helped make the experience smooth and enjoyable for everyone who attended.

A huge thank you to the volunteers who dedicated their time and talents to make the Book Fair happen for our students: Kim Goodlin, Dena Silva, Sarah Sheppard, Kristen Lockett, Kelly Patterson, Melissa Kadar, Andrew Bukovitz, Cheryl Costello, Maria Wilson, Ashley Kurtinitis, Leah Ballard, Tarah Nagel, Jenna Turley, Nicole Deasey, Shelley Belvedere, Angela Colbert, Sarah French, Cassandra McClenny, Gardell McLeod, Chris Wilson, and Samantha Cribbs.

And of course, a very special thank you to Kathy Hogan, the backbone of the Book Fair, and Kate Klebahn and Jasmine Dale for stepping up into leadership roles! We couldn’t have done it without you!
