Reminders & Notes of Interest

National Volunteer Week

Since 1974, National Volunteer Week has been an opportunity to recognize the impact of volunteer service and the power of volunteers to tackle society’s greatest challenges, build stronger communities, and be a force that transforms the world. It takes place every April during Global Volunteer Month.

Here at Windsor Farm Elementary, we are incredibly grateful for the dedication and heart our volunteers bring to our Eagle community every single day. Whether you're helping in the classroom, organizing events, supporting staff, or lending a hand behind the scenes, your efforts help create a safe, joyful, and inspiring learning environment for our students. You are truly part of what makes Windsor Farm so special — your kindness, generosity, and commitment have a lasting impact on our school and our children. Thank you for helping us soar!

Administrative Professional's Day

This Wednesday, we are excited to celebrate Administrative Professionals’ Day and recognize three truly outstanding members of our Windsor Farm team - Wendi Clough, Donna Hickey, and Kim Lynch. They are the friendly faces and steady hands of our front office, ensuring each day runs smoothly with professionalism and care.

From greeting families and answering calls to supporting students and staff, Ms. Wendi, Ms. Donna, and Ms. Kim go above and beyond in everything they do. Their kindness, dedication, and positive energy make a difference every single day, and we are incredibly grateful to have them as part of our school community.

Thank you, Wendi, Donna, and Kim, for all that you do for Windsor Farm! 💙🦅

Vision & Hearing Screenings

Vision and hearing screenings will be conducted this Wednesday. All Pre‑K, Kindergarten, and 1st‑grade students will be screened, along with any students who are new to Anne Arundel County Public Schools this year.

Families who would like their child to be screened may request this through a direct referral. Please contact the Health Room if you would like to make this request.

2026-2027 School Calendar Now Available

The 2026–2027 school calendar has been released and is now available for families to review. Please note an important change to Spring Break next year. Unlike our typical schedule, Spring Break will follow the Easter holiday, not the week before. Spring Break will run from Friday, March 26 through Friday, April 2. In addition, there will be no school for students on Monday, April 5, as this day is designated as a teacher workday. We encourage families to review the calendar as they plan their family trips and Spring Break vacations.

State Testing (MCAP) Continues
for students in grades 3-5

At the elementary level, students in grades 3-5 will be participating in eight sessions of the
Maryland Comprehensive
Assessment Program (MCAP) – 4 sessions in Math and 4 sessions in English/Language Arts.
At Windsor Farm, these sessions are scheduled during April and May.
See below for a complete schedule.

Testing is scheduled to begin at 8:15 each morning on our scheduled testing days. You can help your student do their best by ensuring they get a good night’s sleep, have something to eat in the morning, and arrive to school on time. Students who arrive after the testing session has begun will need to wait in the office until the session ends and will be scheduled
for a make-up session at another time.

STEM Class Donation Request

Mrs. Fitzpatrick is collecting empty ½‑gallon milk or juice cartons for an upcoming STEM class project. If you have any headed for the trash, we would appreciate you sending them into school with your child.

Thank you in advance for your support!

Still Have A lot of Spaces Open

Spring is a wonderful time for new beginnings, and we are excited to invite our families to participate in our “Spring into Reading” Guest Reader Series as we finish out the school year. We will host three special Guest Reader days on April 27, May 8, and June 9, and we would love for you to be a part of this meaningful experience in your child’s classroom.

Guest Readers will have the opportunity to visit the classroom and share a favorite children’s book—ideally with a spring theme—with our students. Hearing stories read by parents, grandparents, and other family members helps children see that reading is joyful, meaningful, and something we share as a community. Your participation helps spark curiosity, imagination, and a lifelong love of literacy.

Guest reading sessions will take place during students’ science/social studies block (times listed in sign-ups below). You are welcome to bring a favorite book from home, or you may choose one from our collection. A basket of popular children’s books will be available in the main office for guest readers to check out if needed.

If you would like to participate, please sign up using one of the links below. When signing up, please include the guest reader’s name in the comments so we know who to expect. We hope to include as many family voices as possible as we celebrate reading this spring!

Thank you for supporting our young readers and helping make literacy a joyful part of every day.

Safe Routes to Schools – Community Input Opportunities

Anne Arundel County Public Works is continuing its Safe Routes to Schools Phase 2 study and is seeking community feedback on draft recommendations for participating schools, which includes Windsor Farm. Families are invited to share their input during several public engagement events taking place from late April through mid‑May, including information tables at community events such as farmers markets and festivals.

There will also be a virtual public meeting on April 30 at 6:00 p.m., open to families from all schools involved in the study, as well as select in‑person meetings for specific school communities. All project information and updates will be posted on the project webpage, and public comments will be accepted through May 25.

Please see the flyers below for event dates, locations, and details on how to participate and share feedback.
