Reminders & Notes of Interest

Bus in Snow

It looks like there is some snow in next week’s forecast. The Maryland State Department of Education requires Maryland school systems to exhaust all built-in inclement weather days before virtual instruction can occur. AACPS has used 0 of the 3 days included in the 2024-25 calendar.

If weather closes schools beyond Wednesday, January 8th, then Thursday, January 9th could be our first Virtual instruction Day. IF a Virtual Instruction Day becomes a possibility as next week progresses, we will share detailed plans through school-wide and teacher communications to promote a successful Virtual Instruction Day for our students and families.

Stage one of our preparations:

  • Math and Reading workbook pages: Students will be bringing home pages from their Reveal Math and CKLA Student Activity Books today to use as they would in their classrooms should we have a Virtual Instruction Day. Please keep these in your child's schoolbags until needed.

  • Chromebooks: We will not be sending devices home today. This is not a cause for concern. If your child does not have a device at home to use for Virtual Instruction, we will provide detailed plans for alternate learning activities which students can access, with or without technology.

  • Instructional formats: Virtual Instruction will look different among grade-levels at the elementary level. More information will be shared if needed.

Second Quarter District Assessments
Students in Grades 3-5 will be participating in the AACPS District Assessments in Reading, Math, and Science over the next two weeks (barring any weather-related changes). Please see the 'Notes for the Week' section above for specific dates for your child's testing days. You can help your child do their best by promoting a good night's sleep, a healthful breakfast, and timely attendance on all testing days.

Children in coats

Brrr…

The weather is getting chillier. Even when it is colder outside, we will still go outside for recess when the temperatures are at or above 32 degrees. Please have your children dressed appropriately for school with the expectation they will be outdoors for recess.
Don't forget to label coats, hats, gloves, etc.
