Note from Principal Barnes

Dear Woodside Families,

What a beautiful Halloween Parade we had yesterday! It was wonderful to see many of you and your children looked fabulous! I hope everyone is enjoying the first day of November and a day off of school today.

Our teachers spent the day working hard to learn new literacy curriculum materials and finalizing report cards. We have ended our first marking period, so please take this time and opportunity to reflect with your child on grades, effort, and attendance. Encouraging your child to set goals is a great way to build independence and empower him/her to take more responsibility.

This month we are looking forward to our American Education Week events, which will occur on November 19th and 22nd. This will be a special opportunity for you to visit your child and see instruction. Our flier with details will go out next week. I’m also excited to share that November 21st will be our Cultural Arts Showcase event from 5:30-7:00 pm. This is a MUST COME EVENT! Students are so proud of their work, please come to celebrate!

Finally, on November 25th and 26th, we will be inviting families to parent/teacher conferences. Communication and scheduling will be sent out from your child’s classroom teacher. Happy November and the beginning of the holiday season!

Sincerely,

Lorie Barnes

Parent/Teacher Conferences

School will be closed on November 25th and 26th for Parent/Teacher Conferences. Conferences can be held in person or virtually. This is a great time to gain insight about your child's progress, share any concerns, and strengthen the home/school connection.

Teachers have shared information regarding signing up for a meeting time. If you have not scheduled a conference yet and are interested in doing so, please contact your child's teacher. We look forward to meeting with you soon!

Throughout the academic year, students will have the opportunity to earn Tiger Points for demonstrating positive behaviors and Caught with Character tickets for exemplifying our monthly focus skill. This month, our focus skill is “Kindness,” which involves being willing to help others and celebrate their successes. Teachers will monitor and record students’ Tiger Points and Caught with Character tickets in Rooms. Families can view their child's total behavior points by clicking on "Behavior" under the Feature list. If you you select "Activity Log," it will also display the behavior your child demonstrated (e.g. Attendance or Safe Actions).

Whether you can commit to a few days a month or more, your contribution will be greatly appreciated. You can start the process by going to AACPS.org (https://aacps.tedk12.com/hire/ViewJob.aspx?JobID=25097) and applying to be a substitute.
