Principal's Message

Dear Pasadena Elementary Families:

As we approach the final days of the school year, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for your continued support. This year has been full of learning, growth, and community, and your partnership has been essential every step of the way. Thank you for all the ways you have contributed to our school’s success.

As indicated in the calendar, we will host grade-level picnics to offer parents and guardians additional opportunities to participate in end-of-year activities. These special gatherings are a wonderful chance to celebrate our students. To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all, an RSVP is required to your student’s teacher, with a limit of TWO parents/guardians per student. We respectfully request that siblings not attend the picnics. Thank you for helping us keep these events focused and manageable. In the event of inclement weather, the grade level picnic may be moved indoors (limited space) or possibly cancelled.

Our team is also busy planning a meaningful promotion ceremony for our fifth-grade students. This milestone celebration will take place on the last day of school at 8:30 am, and RSVP is required. We look forward to recognizing our promoting students as they prepare for the exciting transition to middle school. Parking is limited so please carpool if possible.

For the 2025-2026 school year, PES will continue efforts to support students and staff with wellness and social activities and recognize our students. This tiered framework supports students’ behavioral, academic, social, emotional, and mental health. If you have suggestions for the school’s PBIS team, please email pasadenaes@aacps.org.

Pre-K and Kindergarten registration are on-going. To help us plan for next year, please enroll early. If your family is moving or your student will transfer to another school next year, please call the school at 410-222-6573. Save the date - new student, Kindergarten, and Pre-K Orientation is tentatively scheduled for August 13.

AACPS and Pasadena Elementary School will also switch to summer hours and be closed on Fridays.

Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school community. Wishing you and your family a happy, safe, and fun summer!

Sincerely,

Jennifer Quirino, Principal

Counselor's Corner

Dear Families,

Grades Pre-K-5 discussed topics related to careers. We will talk about different types of careers and the skills necessary to be successful at those careers. Students in intermediate grades completed interest inventories to begin thinking about how their interests and abilities can match with a future career.

How Parents Can Prepare Their Children For A Future Career

  • Take the lead in the development of “soft skills.” The skills required to be successful at school such as showing up on time each day, following a schedule, completing assignments within timelines, interacting well with classmates, and taking direction from those in charge are all essential skills that will transfer to the workplace.

  • Make learning a lifelong pursuit. Learning does not begin and end in the classroom; it’s a lifelong journey. Create an environment in which your child can develop a love of learning and a fascination with the world.

  • Expose your child to a variety of activities. Give your child opportunities to try new activities. Expose them to nature, the arts, science, museums, animals, travel, people, tools and technologies. If there is a subject they are curious about or they show excitement toward, encourage them to learn more about that topic.

  • Instill the value of lifelong friendships. Building strong social bonds early is invaluable. Help your child build solid friendships early in life. It will help them recognize the importance of having a strong network of support—to find new opportunities, face obstacles and overcome challenges.

  • Dare to fail. Too often, we avoid trying something new for fear that we won’t be good at it, or worse, that we’ll completely fail at it. Instead, teach your children that it’s okay to fail, that life is a learning process full of trial and error, and that the only way to know what they’re truly capable of is to test their limits and step outside of their comfort zones.

  • Resist treating your child as an extension of you. Your child is a unique individual. They are not you. The things that might drive you absolutely crazy about a certain job might be the things they absolutely love doing. Resist the urge to tell your child to avoid a certain path just because it’s something that doesn’t interest you.

PBIS News

Do you have suggestions for our PBIS team? Email ideas to pasadenaes@aacps.org

As students demonstrate our schoolwide CARE expectations they fill up their CARE cards to be redeemed for classroom rewards. At the end of each month completed CARE cards are entered in a drawing for special stage seating in the cafeteria with Ms. Noble and Ms. Quirino. Check in with your child(ren) to see what rewards they are earning for following our CARE expectations to Care, Achieve, Respect and Engage.

Weekly, students will be selected for the "Panther Spotlight," highlighting the students in the classroom and broadcasting on morning announcements.

Positive Behavior Referrals are distributed during lunches weekly. Students are recognized by their peers and pictures are posted on the school's Instagram page.

PES Handbook

A PES Handbook has been created to provide a more comprehensive guide that outlines procedures and expectations for students, parents, and staff within our school community.

This handbook should serve as a guide to ensure consistency in school rules and routines that promote a positive, safe, productive learning environment.

Please take a moment to review information regarding school routines, academic standards, behavioral expectations, communication protocols, and resources available.

The PES Handbook can be found on our school website in the Newsletter tab. For easy access, click here.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

This annual initiative promotes connection and learning by encouraging everyone to read or get active during summer. From June 1-August 31, kids, teens and adults can play games and attend events to win fabulous prizes along the way.

New this year is the Choose Your Own Adventure for teens. Read or do activities to earn points and win prizes. One lucky winner will win a Nintendo Switch Mario Kart bundle.

Kids can participate in the Summer Quest and help our friend, Sneaks, travel down the trail to complete their artistic masterpiece.

Adults can partake in the Wild Card Bingo challenge and get entered into a chance to win four (4) airline tickets courtesy of Southwest Airlines just by using their library.

Let Discoveries help you get started on your summer reading with a bag filled with personalized book selections. Each bag comes with some new reads, plus a small treat! The books are checked out to your library account and must be renewed or returned. The treats are yours to keep.

Physical Education

Thank you to the parents that volunteered their time to run a station and help at Field Day. It was wonderful to see so many familiar as well as new faces at Pasadena Elementary, enjoying time with our students. Everyone had an Out of This World Field Day!

There are many ways to remain active over the summer. Please ask your students what they learned this year in P.E. and try practicing an activity or skill over the next few months. Another great way to add movement to each day is by completing the daily activity on the Health and Physical Education Calendar.

See you in August!

Our Mind and Body Calendar is a great way to add movement into each day.

Art

Wow, this school year went by so quickly and it was a busy one! I enjoyed meeting all our new students and getting to know them. I wish all our 5th grade students a great first year in middle school, you will be missed!

Parents, thank you for your continued support and patience with Artsonia. Our overall participation was up to 94%, the highest we have had in our 15 years with Artsonia.

All student's artwork will remain on our webpage and students will 'graduate' to their next grade level in August. Please click here to check out our Artsonia web page.

I'm hoping to collect a few recycled materials in the fall. Over the summer please save your cardboard tubes (paper towel & toilet paper), any bubble wrap and Styrofoam egg cartons.

I hope everyone has a wonderful summer break and I look forward to seeing our Panthers return at the end of August!

Gr 1 - 5: Please bring an additional bag for art work the first week of June.

General Music Notes

I have enjoyed working with all of the students at PES this year. Upcoming 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade families should take the summer to decide if their students would like to be in Orchestra (3rd, 4th, 5th), Band (4th and 5th) or Chorus (4th and 5th) next year. Information about how to sign up for these classes will be given out in September 2025.

I hope that everyone enjoys their summer break and comes back to school ready for fun music making in the fall.

Band/Strings

Hello Panther families!

Thank you all for an amazing year and for making my last moments in Maryland special. For those who were not at the Spring concert, I announced that I would not be returning next year as I am moving to Philadelphia over the summer.

A couple of important things:

  • The last day for Band/Strings is going to be the week of June 9th.

  • I will start collecting instruments the second half of that week for those students who are borrowing a school-owned instrument. You should get a return slip from me; you should keep this for your records.

As always, if you have any questions, please reach out.
